Sydney Speculative Scribes

Sydney Speculative Scribes is a supportive community for writers at all levels, offering a platform for networking, dedicated writing time, craft discussions, and publication tips.

We are particularly interested in writers who:

  • are serious about their craft
  • write speculative fiction
  • live in Sydney

— but we welcome people who are interested in learning more.

Who we are

Sydney Speculative Scribes was founded by Stephanie Johnson and Adeline Teoh in 2024. The pair kept meeting at writers’ festivals, zine fairs and spec fic cons and decided it was bullshit that Sydney didn’t have a spec fic writing community like elsewhere in Australia. Now they regularly meet for tea to discuss writing, zines and travel.

Stephanie Johnson and Adeline Teoh even table together at zine fairs.

What we do

We run regular writing meetups and events through our partners Chatswood Library, WestWords and (coming in 2025) Parramatta Library.

SPECULATIVE WRITING IN FOCUS is our one-day event focused on craft hosted by Chatswood Library on Saturday 26 July 2025. Speakers and details to be announced.

In the meantime, join us and keep up with our events via:
